Lately, I've been more cautious about spur-of-the-moment shopping trips. Perhaps it's a sign of growing up or a realization that I need to be more financially responsible? Regardless, I've noticed that those impulse purchases often find a place tucked away in the back of my closet. Instead of buying things just to buy, I've decided to set a rule for myself that each piece must pair perfectly with at least three other items already in my closet.
Let's call it - the rule of thirds.

Thus, welcoming a new blog series: Perfect Pairs.

Thick Knit Cardigan - Gap // Polka Dot Sequin Sweater - J.Crew
Knit Snood - Old Navy // Faux Fur Snood - Michael Kors
Tweed Peplum Jacket - Tibi // Tweed Jacket - {similar}
Leopard Skimmers - Madewell // Leopard Pumps - J.Crew

Do you set guidelines for your shopping habits?

This weekend, I'm headed to my college town to cheer on the Missouri tigers during Homecoming weekend. This is probably the one thing I miss most about being in college, along with the late nights and little-to-no responsibilities. I plan to toast to the weekend with a few of my closet sorority sisters
{with champagne, of course!}

With my team's colors being black and gold, I plan to pack a few of my favorite pieces to create a variety of looks that take on the spirit of the festive weekend. I thought I'd share a few of the images that inspired my black + gold wardrobe for the weekend:

 I love a good sale.

Especially on items that I usually wouldn't spend the full price on, like a fun printed cosmetics case. This morning when I saw that Tory Burch was hosting an exclusive Facebook sale on the Brigette Cosemetics Case - I just had to share. How perfect would this be for travelling or simply sitting on a bathroom sink?

Pick it up by visiting Tory Burch on Facebook and the Shop App.
Only $38 today {originally $65} while supplies last.

Every once in a while it's fun to invest in pieces that aren't always necessary, but add a little extra touch to your daily beauty routine, jewelry collection and even home decor. After a few weeks of shopping for fall necessities {black suede booties, fisherman cable sweaters, army green jacket, and soft blouses,} it's fun to make a list of things I'd like to have - just because.

Hello, holidays!

Today, Refinery 29 unveiled the 50-piece Target x Neiman Marcus holiday collection  featuring 24 top CFDA designers, which launches in-stores on December 1st. I must say - I am quite impressed with the range of  affordable pieces and outside-the-box home decor and gifts, starting at $7.99. From printed stationary sets to glassware, it's going to be a great season for shopping at Target. Here are my top picks:

Carolina Herrera for Target + NM Stationary - $19.99 // Marc Jacobs for Target + NM Scarf - $69.99 // Jason Wu for Target  + NM Ornaments - $49.99 // Marc Jacobs for Target + NM Metallic Pouches - $69.99 // Tracy Reese for Target + NM Dessert Plates - $39.99

What designer product is your favorite from the collection?

Exciting news! I've been asked to be an official Kansas City Fashion Week judge. This means I'll be sitting in on all of the designer interviews during the selection process. I'm thrilled to work closely with the KCFW team and to meet a variety of designers during the interviews taking place this weekend. I'm hoping to see innovative and chic fashions + accessories.

Stay tuned on more updates as the process continues!

Another week has flown by. Does anyone else feel like this month is moving way too quickly?
Here are a few snap shots from the past week.
1. Finding the perfect jacket {from LOFT} that is classic and bold.
2. Taking time to flip through the October issues for style inspiration.
3. Embracing the cooler temperatures with my fall uniform: skinnies, sweater + booties.
4. Spending a day at the salon to change my light ombre hair for a darker, warmer version.
5. Enjoying the task of picking out paint & starting the home design process.
6. Carving the pumpkins we picked from the patch a few weeks ago.
7. Finding the perfect gold cap toe heels {and for way under my budget!}
8. Refusing to take off my new favorite army jacket, even when wearing a LBD.

This week has been a long one with lots of activity. This weekend, I'm looking forward to relaxing and making very few plans, minus a much-needed day at the salon and a few trips to the home goods store to pick out paint swatches and other things for our new home {yes! we got it.} Other than that, I plan to devote more time to my blog and other big things happening that simply need to get done - more to come on that later.

Here are a few of my Friday Favorites to wrap up the week. From officially switching out my summer wardrobe to fall basics {blouses, knits and sweaters} to enjoying a stack of homemade pumpkin pancakes, layering on a bold piece of jewelry and getting use out of my classic black pumps. Fall is here, and I love it!

I apologize for my absence, I've been too busy celebrating!
{1, 2, 3}

This week has been exciting, to say the least. And with a lot of big things happening in my life and for a few of my closest friends - we've done a lot of celebrating. From a champagne-filled evening to a bachelorette night, I can't help but feel this month is off to a great start.

Lately, I've been reaching for my favorite cozy knits and blouses over more structured and embellished pieces. As someone who prefers heels to flats and dresses over denim, I'm not sure why I'm starting to favor more casual styles. Regardless of the reason, I've already started to stock up on casual pieces like slightly worn-in chambray tops, cable knit sweaters and other comfortable pieces.
Here are a few of my favorites, so far:

From fashion events and runway shows at Kansas City Fashion Week to evenings spent house hunting, September has been a busy and exciting month. Here are a few snapshots from my favorite happenings.
Treating myself to afternoon macarons & chai tea during a busy work day of event planning.
Transitioning to fall in my favorite trench {a gift from an employer in New York} and go-to scarf.
The excitement of seeing myself featured in a local magazine as a 'hair model.'
Switching out my pastel polish for hues with a deeper shade to match the season.
Stocking up on breezy blouses that are both polished and versatile for everyday occasions.
Taking the time to walk around the city, and enjoying the views of the Country Club Plaza.
Making a day trip to the pumpkin patch with the boy, which turned out to be the best date yet.
Ringing in the new month with homemade apple cider from the mill.

Although September is over, I have a feeling that October will be even better. I have a few exciting blog features and big announcements coming up. Stay tuned!
