CHIC CHAT: KEEP IT OR LEAVE IT?

I've noticed lately that many of my favorite bloggers have set a resolution to not shop for unnecessary clothing and accessories both throughout the year and in these first few months. This got me thinking and sent me straight to my closet. I asked myself, "do I really love everything hanging in here?" The answer was no. And after looking at every piece {luckily, I have it all color coded at the moment} I decided that their point was valid. It's time to change. And by change, I don't mean shredding my credit card or never stepping foot in my favorite stores again. Rather, it's time to re-evaluate my style and to be smart about what I decide to add to my closet.

Since, I have way too many ideas on this topic for one blog post, I've decided to share my thoughts and progress as I move forward. In the meantime, take a few minutes to look inside your closet. What pieces do you love and wear most frequently? What have you not worn in months or even years? And ask yourself one last question: Does my closet define my style? The answer should always be yes.

  1. I'm with you on this. I need to seriously evaluate my closet. Decide what is me, or what was just a fleeting moment in mind that I would love something and then never wear it. This year it's about smart, investment pieces (pricey or not pricey), but pieces that truly define who I am and my style. Let's do this :)

    1. I know, it's such a good idea! I need to stop impulse buys and start investing in quality vs. quantity. It's nice to see bloggers get on board with this instead of constantly pushing unhealthy spending!

  2. When I first started blogging a year ago I was so intimidated by the amount of pieces (and nice ones) that some of the other bloggers had! It just made me want to go on a shopping frenzy because I didn't feel content with anything I had. However, I've learned that if I limit impulse buying and take the time to find the right version of a piece I've really been wanting and can wear a lot of different ways...that I don't really spend more money, but get more mileage out of what I have! But I've also been wanting to go through things I already have and sell/give some things away!

    1. So true! It's so hard for me to justify a lot of the more expensive brands I used to buy because I now work from home. It's one thing being able to be able to wear those things on a daily basis, but you really have to shop for your lifestyle!

  3. I agree...impulse buying is the WORST thing to do for your closet. If it's not an investment and not a classic piece, most likely you will want to part with it. My favorite items are from J.Crew; it seems they are the most classic and the ones that get the most mileage. I am trying to focus on quality instead of quality; although you know i love a good F21 or Target find :)
