CHIC DECOR: WHITE

1 | 2 | 3 | 4

This weekend, we started our search for the perfect living room couch. After putting it off for a several months, we're ready for a piece that is comfortable and relaxing, while still being stylish. I won't even begin to describe the current couch we have. Let's just say it's not pretty. Neither of us have made a major couch purchase before and as newbies, we want to make sure we find 'the one' before taking the plunge. {Side Note: Remember when I announced we were moving in together and being oh-so-worried about our styles colliding? I guess I got lucky because we've seemed to agree on just about everything, so far - it helps that I do most of the shopping + styling!}

 Surprising, we were both instantly attracted to a soft white couch during our trip. It was just the right amount of plush, without being too modern or vintage looking and is simple enough that it could act as both a place for lounging and entertaining. However, a white couch makes me nervous. I had an off-white version in my previous apartment that I adored, but it did not hold up against red wine...or late-night takeout. Now, we have our little pup to add into the mix. Thankfully, he doesn't shed but I can just imagine dirty paw prints or the remnants of a bone being chewed on a pretty white couch. Sigh. And I know a grey version would be equally as pretty and meet our needs, but I just can't let go of the white. Plus, it would look amazing paired with bright and colorful pillows, a patterned throw and other fun decor.

Any tips on couches? Would you go for white vs. darker neutrals {or even colored!}

  1. I love the idea of a white sofa, but I am so worried I won't want anyone to sit on it! Maybe look for a sofa that is slip covered (but still classy) so you can wash it :)

    1. True...A couch should be a place where you can put your feet up (literally) after a long day.

  2. I normally gravitate towards more color (within airy white backdrops), but the relaxed vibe of the neutrals in the last photo make white seem so do-able! Maybe you can train the pup to park itself on a chic little throw?

    1. Don't get me wrong - I love color! But for some reason I usually lean toward neutral furniture and add bright colors with the decor. I think it's because I change my mind about things a lot and you can never go wrong with neutrals, but always can add new colored pillows/throws/etc. to the mix.

      And luckily, he is small enough right now he can't get on the couch by himself (we have to pick him up.) On the off chance he grows a couple more lbs, I want to make sure he won't ruin it!

  3. I have a white couch! It can be a pain in the ass to keep clean, but I love the way it looks so much that I don't even mind!

    1. Good to know! What type of fabric is it? And is it hard to clean?
