I'm starting to love cooking more & more each day. But, when I was told that I would be in charge of our Super Bowl XLVII party snacks this weekend, I was a bit overwhelmed.  I'm trying to eat and live healthier and my first thought was how can I make something that is boy-approved and won't make me feel guilty at the same time? After some research, I came up with four amazing appetizer ideas that fit the bill. Here is what is on my party menu:
1. Buffalo Chicken Cups: I already know these will be a blue cheese topped cups will be hit!
2. Skinny Layered Guacamole Dips: Perfect individualized way to enjoy healthy dips.
3. Zucchini Pizza Bites: Healthy pizza? Yes, please!
4. Carmalized Apple Crostini:  A sneaky way to add fruit to appetizers.

I've always had a love for dressing up, especially for the work place. From my first internship in NYC to an agency job out of college, I was the girl in a pair of high heels and something fun, yet appropriate for the office. Luckily, I've always worked in a creative environment where a love of fashion was both accetable and expected. After making the switch from 9-to-5 office life to working from home, let's just say my everyday style has changed.

Although I promised myself I wouldn't compromise my wardrobe for the opportunity to do what I love from home, I would be lying if I said it hasn't. My heels? They have a thin layer of dust. And my pretty pencil skirts and dresses have remained untouched. I still have weekly meetings, events and other gatherings that require me to throw on a perfectly styled outfit, but the other days I turn to my button ups and sweaters, classic denim, and comfortable shoes. However, why not make it a bit more fun? Here is some casual chic outfit inspiration for anyone that wants to look styled for the everyday.

1. Lip Lusters: Sometimes a bold lip is just more fun. I've been addicted to my Tarte lip lusters lately.
2. Award Season + Bubbly: I love award season and it's best enjoyed with a glass of bubbly, strawberries and super-fun Kate Spade coasters. What were your SAG Awards style favorites?
3. Blogger Meet Up: While many bloggers were off at Alt Summit, I spent this past Thursday with the lovely ladies of KC Blogger Meet Up for a night of beauty at The Glam Room Salon and chatted it up with Sarah & Kim.
4.  Going Green: I finally found the perfect shade of green nail polish - essie 'stylenomics.'
5. Healthy Breakfast: This banana oat smoothie has been on repeat lately. Simply blend a banana, dark chocolate almond milk, old fashioned oats, a dash of cinnamon, and dollop of greek yogurt.
6. Giveaway Winner: And the winner of the Urban Peach Boutique is...Molly S. Congrats! x

The month of January is coming to an end this week, which means it's almost time for Valentine's Day {side note: this holiday happens to land on my birthday} Other than obvious reason, this is one of my favorite holidays of the year. I love any day that I can celebrate over a box of chocolates with fresh flowers and those that I care most about. Plus, it doesn't hurt that I get a little extra love with it being my birthday and all. Whether you go all out or keep it simply, it's important to show some love. Here are a few gift ideas anyone would love for the special day:

To celebrate the simple gift. To follow your dreams.
This is a happy life." - Wayland Henry

As part of my 2013 resolution, I'm only making smart shopping purchases that will add value and versatilty to my closet. My secret trick so far? Make lists. Each month, I've decided to make an list of what I do not currently have but think will add to my closet. This way, instead of coming home with a shopping bag filled with impulse items, I know exactly what to look for ahead of time. I stumbled across several "investment" items at J. Crew and LOFT that are ideal for spring.
Edie Satchel in Navy - J. Crew |  Silk Short Sleeve Blouse - J. Crew | Distressted Toothpick Denim - J. Crew |  Short Cast Crystal Necklace - LOFT |  Short Booties in Taupe - LOFT  |  Anchor Earrings - J. Crew | Floral Scarf - LOFT

This week was definitely one where I couldn't be more happy that it's Friday. You know those weeks - the super busy, can't stop to think kind. Now, all I want to do is celebrate the fact that everything is done and over. Preferably with a champagne cocktail. Cheers to that!  Here are my celebration-worthy favorite finds of the week:
1. Cin Cin Vintage: Have youe heard? There is a darling new e-shop in town. And it's definitely one you will want to know about! Cin Cin Vintage is a collection of chic vintage barware and cocktail party accessories curated by the stylish Caitlin Moran behind Style Within Reach and Glitter Guide. This is the perfect destination for the frequent hostesses or anyone who simply enjoys a fancy cocktail every now and then. Becuase who doesn't love a sparkly swizzle stick? Cin Cin!

2. Macaron Club: Sorry, but this one is for my Kansas City gals! Natasha's Mulberry & Mott {you know, the incredibly chic french pastry shop in town} is now offering a French Macaron club. I repeat: a French Macaron club! Basically, if you are as addicted to these sweet confections as I am, you can enjoy them on a regular basis or gift them to your macaron-loving friends with a 6-month or one year membership. Each box is hand selected with the top flavors. Sign me up!

3. Two Years of BaubleBar: You definitely are living under a rock if you haven't heard of BaubleBar at this point. And if you haven't, get out from under that rock and get to shopping! The accessory e-tailer known for stylish gems and jewels celebrates their two year anniversary this month with a special collection  that will make you fall in love with sparkly things all over again. From delicate studs to gemstone necklaces, you won't want to miss out. Happy Birthday!

3. The Easiest D.I.Y Ever : I'm definitely that girl that loves the idea of crafting, but isn't the best at actually taking the time to do projects. This year, I'm setting a goal to make at least five things from my ever-growing craft board on Pinterest. So, when I stumbled upon this D.I.Y flower print crafted by Brunch at Saks that was made from a cauliflower {yes, a cauliflower} I knew that this had to be on my to-do list. Hey, a girl can cook and craft at the same time - right?

Confession: I may or may not visit Target more than any other store each month. It's kind of an addiction. How can you not love it? It has everything! Although I have a growing collection of designer beauty brands in my bathroom, I often pick up just-for-fun products while on my frequent shopping trips. It's fun to try out new brands and products, withought breaking the bank! I thought I'd share a few of my top picks straight from the shelves:
Face: One thing I always save on is cleansing wipes. Why not? You use them once to take of the grit and grim then throw them away! I use these gentle and cleansing towlettes by Neutrogena to get the job done. Another good thing to try before you splurge is on new products. Like, how popular are BB Creams right now? Instead of spending a pretty penny on something you are not 100% sure of, try it for fun first! I like the sheer and slightly tinted BB Cream by Maybelline

Nails/Lips: Lip and nail products are my weakness. Everytime I'm working on my shopping list, I usually toss in at least one new nail polish and lipstick - just because. I think it's because they are fun and make-you-happy products. Who doesn't love trying a new shade of hot pink, whether on your nails or lips? And a burst of color is such an easy {and most of the time affordable} way to brighten your look. Essie polish is my top pick - hands down. For lips, I stop by Revlon first for the moisture-rich lipsticks and bright colors. I'm also obsessed with chapstick and swear by Eos. They are the best!

Eyes: I have to admit, I tend to go for quality over quantity when it comes to eye products. However, I do love an affordable mascara. One can never have too many mascara tubes {for the purse, bathroom and car for quick touch-ups} and Cover Girl's Lash Blast is always a top pick for me. The wand adds instant volume and fullness that lasts for hours!

Budget Beauty Picks:

In starting the process of organizing and decorating my office, I've decided to go with a crisp and minimalistic approach. To balance all white walls and furniture, I'm on the hunt for artwork that can add a bit of character and color to my walls. I have several favorite print shops on Etsy, but have been particularly drawn to simple sketches, inspiring quotes and contemporary watercolors. I've had my eye on the 'Topknot Collection' from Elizabeth Mayville for awhile now and plan to add one to my walls soon. I also stumbled upon the recently launched Note to Self: Print Shop and love the affordable sketches that are so simple, yet chic. I think the two collections will compliment each other perfectly.

Jessica Alba - Oscar de la Renta // Nicole Richie - Naeem Khan
Isla Fisher - Reem Acra // Emily Blunt - Michael Kors

Is anyone else still processing the Golden Globe Awards from last night? From the gowns to the acceptance speeches, this year was another one for the books. I have to admit - I wasn't blown away by one person overall. However, I have to give recognition to the ladies who got it right. Jessica Alba stole the show for me in the perfect shade of coral. Although her Oscar de la Renta gown isn't my favorite from their collection, I think that her look was the most showstopping. Beyond the dress, her sideswept waves and statement diamond necklace added a touch of old Hollywood glamour. I also loved the colored lace and intricate details seen on Nicole Richie and Emily Blunt. Notable mentions for me include Jennifer Lawrence in Dior {she is stunning, but not a favorite - sorry!} I also loved the white Chanel gown worn by Anne Hathaway, but the dress wore her and it should always be the other way around.

{p.s. How touching and amazing was it to see the ladies of Girls steal the show?!}

Tell me, who are your best dressed from the evening?

I have to admit, I've 100% jumped on the Pantone Color of the Year trend wagon. Although I don't have a ton of emerald in my wardrobe or home decor, I plan to add the bold hue in small doses to start. The great thing about emerald is that it looks great year-round and adds an instant luxe feel. I love silky blouses in the rich hue, which can be paired back to an equally bold skirt or denim. For beauty, keep it simple with an emerald nail polish. As for accessories, this is the time to make a statement. You can't go wrong with an oversized gemstone necklace or earrings.

1. I Like What You're Wearing (the magazine): I love a good magazine and am starting to find myself reading more and more online with the help of my new iPad Mini. Although I still pick up hard copies of magazines each month, I find it much more convenient {and cost-effective} to catch up on my favorite reads online. So, when I found out that one of my favorite fashion websites, I Like What You're Wearing launched a new magazine this month - I had to check it out. The magazine is short, but sweet and filled with stylish inspiration. Plus, they just so happen to have a feature on my old internship employer & fashionite, Amy Levin of College Fashionista. Read the first issue here

2. Oscar Nominations 2013: Unless you are living under a rock, you've probably heard that the Oscar nominations we're announced yesterday morning. I know, it's old news but I still thought I would share in my weekly round up. It's my tradition the morning of any award show announcements to get up early, enjoy a cup of hot tea and anxiously wait as each name is listed. Anyone else get excited about these things? See the full list of Oscar nominations here

3. Top Instagram Account to Follow: I'm kind of addicted to Instagram, but who isn't these days? However, I'm not good about finding new users to follow. If you're the same way as me, I thought I would share this stylish round-up of 20 Instagram accounts that everyone should follow. See the full story on Glitter Guide
p.s. Follow me at @kathryn_elise and I'll follow you back!

4. Stylish Book Shelves: I'm finally starting to work on the decor of my master bedroom and home office. One thing that I've been on the hunt for is new shelving to add to each room. I just find it's the easiest and most stylish way to keep everything organized. I also know I want to combine my favorite fashion books, vases and other odds-and-ends for an eclectic feel. Of course, I've pulled tons of inspiration on how to pefectly style shelves from Pinterest and stumled across the perfect site with tips on making it seem cohesive. As a beauty publicist by day, I'm constantly thinking/looking/talking about all things beauty. My biggest dilemma when it comes to beauty is that I love the routine of it. I'm definitely the girl that takes too long to get ready. And it's not beause I'm vain or have a million things to conceal but, because I truly enjoy the process. There really is no better feeling than a warm bubble bath, followed by an at-home mani/pedi and perhaps a face mask to start the day. The reality is, I don't have time to "get ready" very often. I'm always in a rush and on-the-go, just like the rest of us. So, here are a few quick beauty tips to look polished, even while on a tight timeframe.

1. Combine bold color + simple style: So, you hit snooze? Whatever you do, do not try out a new hairstyle or makeup trick that you may or may not have found on Pinterest the night before. Chances are, it won't turn out on the first try and you will have the rest of the day to dred that decision. To avoid bad beauty days, keep it simple. A topknot bun or sleek pony tail always do the trick. Pair it with a dash of bright lipstick and out-the-door you go!

2. Stick to one color: No time to think about coordinating anything other than your outfit? Stick to one color when it comes to your makeup. Keep everything else neutral. And I always recommend red. A classic red nail and lip look pulled together in that I-did-not-try-too-hard kind of way.

3. Take your products to-go: I know. This is so, so obvious. But, I swear I've fallen victim to this rule so many times before! As a rule of thumb, I always have the nail polish and lip color I'm currently wearing, along with a compact for quick touch-ups. Because you never want to have that moment where the day ends and you notice that you've had a major lipstick smear the entire day.

I've noticed lately that many of my favorite bloggers have set a resolution to not shop for unnecessary clothing and accessories both throughout the year and in these first few months. This got me thinking and sent me straight to my closet. I asked myself, "do I really love everything hanging in here?" The answer was no. And after looking at every piece {luckily, I have it all color coded at the moment} I decided that their point was valid. It's time to change. And by change, I don't mean shredding my credit card or never stepping foot in my favorite stores again. Rather, it's time to re-evaluate my style and to be smart about what I decide to add to my closet.

Since, I have way too many ideas on this topic for one blog post, I've decided to share my thoughts and progress as I move forward. In the meantime, take a few minutes to look inside your closet. What pieces do you love and wear most frequently? What have you not worn in months or even years? And ask yourself one last question: Does my closet define my style? The answer should always be yes.

There is nothing better than finding something that is a truly versatile piece. One that you just know will get several years in your closet. That is just what I like about my little red jacket. Black can be overdone when worn everyday. Red gives the right pop of unexpected color and works for a variety of occassions. I paired this jacket {from LOFT} with my favorite neon necklace and solid black for a business meeting and wore it out afterward for drinks with the girls.

Get the look with a few of my favorite little red jackets:

This week went by surprising fast {the first of 2013!} Maybe it's because of the end of the holiday season and getting back into the swing of things? Perhaps it's also this extreme need I have built to start all of my resolutions list for the year. Am I the only one? But, as they say, 'Rome wasn't built in a day.' And it's true. I've decided to take it slow and enjoy these goals I've set for myself. One way to keep track of daily progress is with a new planner. Plus, it's just a more personal and organized way to stay on task. Here is a round up of a few stylish + budget-friendly styles to kickstart the year.

1. Net-a-Porter, Pocket Faux Leather Planner - $20
2. Etsy.com, Stripes Project Planner - $18
3. Graphic Image, Neon Planner - $80
4. Sarah Pinto, Stripes Weekly Planner - $20
5. Kate Spade - Leather Planner, $118
6. Sarah Pinto, Rugby Weekly Planner, $20
7. Kate Spade - Sprial Planner, $38

This weekend we are having our smallest bathroom completely renovated. I wish I had taken a before picture, it was all pink and basically the worst thing I have ever seen! Although a bathroom isn't usually the most exciting room in a house, I'm pretty ready to see my design come to life. We are keeping this one simple with modern updates and timeless colors. And because every room deserves something special, I thought I'd share a few of the most stylish salle de bains:

Starting off 2013 with a new series that will be posted every Friday. Hope you like it! Since I'm constantly  browsing blogs, websites and basically anything & everything on the web, I've decided to round-up my top finds and share them each week. Let's start with a few links that are pretty inspiration to start the new year on a stylish note.
1. Fund the Life of Your Dreams - Confession: I hate math, but I love shopping. And it's never been a good combination for my bank account. Luckily, I have a boy with an accounting background that helps keep my finances straight. At the same time, I'd like to get better at budgeting on my own without having to constantly ask for help. I read this finance article on The Everygirl and am planning to take a lot of advice from it. If you need the extra motivation like me, fill out this chart to get a better understanding of your spending habits vs. income.

2. Ring My Bell - I may be way late to the game with my recent obsession with the show Revenge, but I don't care. It's just so good. So, it may not be a surprise that I'm also late to realize that the show's always stylish British star, Ashley Madekwe also happens to have an amazing fashion blog. If you are also a fan of the show and super stylish, yet wearable outfits, check it out here

3. Healthy Winter Smoothies -  It's true, I love a good smoothie. However, it's not a treat I find myself
enjoying in the winter very often. I mean, it's freezing out. Why would I drink something cold? But, getting into my New Year's resolution to live healthy, I couldn't help but get a bit excited when I unexpectedly stumbled across a few tasty winter smoothie ideas for the winter on Apartment Therapy. I definitely could go for a Banana Spice smoothie for breakfast. Yum! See the full recipes here

4.  Bar Cart Basics - Who doesn't love a beautiful bar cart? It just seems to add something special to any kitchen or dining room. With a new house that still seems to have an endless list of things to fix, re-design and decorate, I keep getting a bit distracted by bar carts. Why? I'm not sure. But they are fun! And if you're also on the hunt for one of your own, there is no better place than Society Social. They are kind of like the creme de la creme of bar carts! Shop them here.

Happy Friday!

First off, I want to wish you a Happy New Year! Now that 2013 is here, I want to start it off with attainable goals and resolutions that will positively impact my life, health and well-being. My big resolution this year? To get organized. Although I can't stand clutter and chaos, I've noticed in this past year that I often let my busy schedule affect my organization and attention to details. Leaving the past behind, it's time to clean the slate and implement a few methods that will make my life a little less stressful and a lot more organized. My first project of the year will be my office.

Going into this year working from home, it's so important for me to have a tidy work space. A new desk, shelves for organizing in style and minimalistic decor {like fresh scented candles, colorful pens & motivational prints} are the perfect way to start the year. Here is to a fresh start!
