Things have been so busy around here, I've had to put the decor process of our house on the backburner - just for now. In the meantime, I picked up a few bouquets of fresh flowers last week and the blooms instantly added a bright & cheerful touch to the room. I'm not too particular when it  comes to flowers and love just about anything especially in soft shades of pink and white. So, I wanted to know - as a newbie to buying fresh flowers - where do you purchase them? At the grocery store or flower shop? And do you prefer real or fake?

Right now, I'm stuck inside due to what is likely the worst snowstorm in years. We've received so much snow, that when I look outside my windows all there is to see is white. I must admit, at first it was fun to have an excuse to cuddle on the couch and sip tea all day. Now, I'm just getting a serious case of cabin fever which has led me to start dreaming of a warm weather getaway {the sooner, the better!

The boy and I had plans to go to Kiawah Island in South Carolina for a week, but had to switch the dates and are still in the process of nailing down the details. Regardless of where we go, I thought this outfit would be perfect to pack for a quick getaway. When going on a trip, I love to bring pieces that can easily be mixed & matched. And I think everything about this look could easily be switch around a few days of spring looks:

Sandals - Loeffler Randal {also love this lucite pair!} | Shorts - J. Crew | Silk Colorblock Blouse - J. Crew | Sunnies - Karen Walker | Lipstick - Topshop | Nail Polish - Essie | Rose Pierre Collar Necklace -  Shopbop | Square Studs - Kate Spade

Did you watch the Oscars last night? I did. And it was just as fabulous as I thought it would be. Everything about this year's event was perfectly elegant from the designer gowns to the show itself.

My best dressed? I had so many it was hard to choose just one. In fact, I don't really have a worst dressed. However, I could not stop obsessing over Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior Haute Couture, Amy Adams in Oscar de la Renta and Charlize Theron  also in Dior. I love that these ladies kept it simple and elegant in soft white, blush and muted tulle gowns with delicate diamond jewelry. Other stunners for me were Jessica Chastain and Naomi Watts who both sparkled in Armani Prive. Beside the gowns, I loved that the stars also kept their hair & makeup simple, flawless and feminine. I love a classic beauty and these ladies nailed it with pink lips, rosy cheeks, subtle smoky eye and luminous skin.

I was thrilled when the Kansas City Fashion Week team asked me to style a few looks for the upcoming fashion week kick off event hosted at The Garment House Boutique located in Kansas City's Garment District. I've always loved styling, whether for my clients, photo campaigns or events and it's something I'd love to start doing more.

Since the KCFW kick off event is this Wedneday, February 27 I didn't want to share the details on the looks I pulled just yet. Instead, here is a peek at the boutique. I love the atmosphere of the store, it has a modern feel with chic details like silver streamers that hang from the ceiling and fresh flower accents. And since it's a larger-size boutique, there is a huge selection of clothing and jewelry. If you're ever in the downtown Kansas City area, I highly recommend stopping by!

This week, I was inspired by so many things it was honestly hard to compile my Friday Favorites. Perhaps it was because I had much more down time with the snowstorm keeping me locked inside, but I seemed to keep stumbling upon several inspirational stories and great finds. And I'm excited to share! As for this weekend, I really have no big plans. The Oscars are this Sunday and I'm realizing how few of the nominated films I've seen. Still, I plan to watch the red carpet in anticipation for the best gowns and beauty looks. With the weather still calling for more snow, I might just stay cuddled up on the couch in my favorite pajamas with my new puppy, a cup of chai tea and a few good magazines.

1. The Everygirl turns 1! Did you hear? The Everygirl {or the best website for young women} just turned one. I followed the co-founders Danielle and Alaina before the launch and have always been so inspired by their passion and the work they do. So, when I saw that the duo shared their personal stories yesterday I couldn't wait to plop down with my computer and soak it all in. Let's just say, this was such a great read for me. Instead of filling you in on all the details, please just go read it for yourself here!

2. Blog: A Dirty word? Keeping with the theme, I had to share a post written by Leandra Medine a.k.a The Man Repeller. Long story short, Suzy Menkes was published in T Magazine discussing the "The Circus of Fashion" or the change in the fashion world due to the impact of social media, bloggers and the like. As a newbie to this community, I was a bit hurt to read this. It honestly made me want to give up. But then, I saw what Leandra wrote here

3. Advice 01: Last, but not least, if you don't already follow Sarah of Note to Self, you seriously must. Earlier this week, she posted her first series of a new advice column and I honestly took so much from it. The question? "How to brand your blog to stand out from the crowd." A very good question indeed! Check out her detailed response and tips here. Even if you aren't a blogger, I promise you'll take something away from it!

p.s. If you are stuck inside due to the weather, take it from me and check out a few of the online sales happening right now. I've already shopped the super sale happening on Piperlime {hello, coats from Pim + Larkin for $40!} Also, LOFT has $20 spring sweaters in colors that will having you dreaming of warmer weather, Old Navy {yes, I shop there!} has $20 jeans.

Have a great weekend! xo

If you are lucky enough to be in warm weather right now, I'm so jealous. We are in the middle of a snow blizzard and are expected to receive almost 15 inches of snow. The only good part of the storm is having a chance to hang out with my guy and the puppy while I work on a few projects. With cold, dry winter weather in full swing, I've had to take extra care of my skin lately. I thought I'd share a few of my favorite products + tips to tackle the inclimate weather.
1. Skin & Face: Dry skin is my biggest challenge during the cold season. My face tends to peel and get extra flaky, which is never a good look. When the temperature starts to drop, I switch from my light moisturizer to something that is just a bit creamier. At the moment, I'm obsessed with Algenist Firming and Lifting Cream. Although I don't have any wrinkles or signs of anti-aging yet, it's never too soon to start using skin treatments to prevent! I just got a Clairisonic and have been using it 2-4 times a week. Although it's too soon to give a full review, I love the way it makes my skin look and feel. And for days when no amount of moisturizer can solve my skin problems, I use a dehumidying treatment.

2. Lips: Chapped lips are a common problem this time of year. So far, I've done a pretty good job of fighting it this season. I always keep an aresonal of lippies, balms and treatments in my handbags at all times to keep moisturized at a moments notice. On a regular day, I like to keep it simple with Eos Organic Lip Balm. For a hint of color, that doesn't feel dry or chalky I love Tarte Lip Surgence lip tints. They look like a crayon, go on smooth like a balm and give color like a lipstick!

3. Nails: I hate when my nails don't look their best. If I had to choose leaving the house with perfectly done makeup OR a manicure, my nails would always win. In the winter, I tend to stick to more neutral polishes in soft nude, grey and pink shades. Since nails can also be affected by the dry weather, I try to keep them in good condition by switching to polishes that contain less toxins. Deborah Lippmann is one of my favorite brands. Cuticle oil {love this one!} and hand lotion are another, easy and affordable way to keep hands soft and touchable in-between mani's.

Do you have any amazing products that fight dry, cold winter weather? Please share!

p.s. Neiman Marcus is having their annual beauty event now through March 3. Spend $125 online or in-stores and receive a gorgeous tote {I love the bright blue!} filled with product samples. What are you waiting for? Shop here!

Who doesn't love the weekend?! That is why I'm so excited about the launch of Kate Spade New York's new brand inspired by everyones favorite day of the week, Saturday. This sunny collection officially launches in March, but Fab.com is hosting a sneek peak pop-up shop right now! Shop the collection here.

I love everything I've seen so far including the bright yellow and neutral shoes, accessories and knick knacks. The brand will offer similar looks we love from Kate Spade, but at a much lower price {mostly under $200!} I definitely could see myself packing all of these items for a weekend beach getaway this spring.
So, what do you think - do you love it as much as it's sister concept?

Of all the designers that show during NYFW, I can always count on Tory Burch to offer something fresh, completely cool and easy for any girl to re-create straight off the runway. I love knowing I can easily take something from the show and apply it in my own life. From the hair and makeup to the overall look. Plus, the clothing and accessories are always the perfect mix of city-girl-chic meets girl-whose-travelled-the-globe.

The fall 2013 collection holds true with soft & femine hues, detailed textures and beaded jewelry. To compliment the look, effortless updos and minimal makeup were so subtle, it actually stood out. Diane Kendal for MAC created a flawless look with light, luminous foundation and natural makeup in shades of nude and maude to highlight features. Natural nails complimented the soft pink cheeks and lips. Anyone else love that natural is back on the beauty radar?

I finally dusted off my trusty Nikon camera and got it fixed & working again. I have to admit, for someone who used to love taking pictures {I even wanted to be a photojournalist at one point!} I'm feeling a bit rusty. Either way, I'm kind of excited to put down my iPhone and start taking photos with my camera again. So, expect to see more on ECS. Here are a few of my favorite things that have been keeping me in a lovey mood, even though Valentine's Day is now over...
1. Pink roses given to me by a sweet friend have found a home on my nightstand.
2. Meet my new love, Otis! He was my big birthday surprise from the boy and I'm offically head-over-heels.
3. I made a trip to Kate Spade and ended taking home the darling 2013 day planner. p.s. It's now on super sale!
4. My family knows me all too well and showered me with chocolates & magazine subscriptions.

How was your Valentine's Day weekend?

I love a good pair of heels and am always on the hunt for new styles to add to my collection. As someone who usually prefers pumps over flats, I knew I found the perfect pair when I tried on the J. Crew Etta pumps. These shoes have been deemed "the heels for the girl who only wears flats" and I can see why. The Italian made chunky heel adds more support than a stiletto and a cushioned inside lends all-day comfort. I've decided to look past the price tag and take the plunge. A great {and comfortable} shoe is always worth the investment and is sure to get tons of wear! Plus, there are so many stylish prints, patterns, colors and fabrics to choose from including satin, snakeskin, sequins and calf hair leopard print. Now, if only I could pick my favorite pair.

NYFW may be over, but I'm still soaking in all the beautiful images, watching the videos and skimming over all the articles from the shows. I spent yesterday relaxing on the couch and flipped through the best street style photos from The Cut. The colorful clutches, structured winter coats and perfectly styled acceessories are all so on-point.

Speaking of fashion week, Kansas City Fashion Week is just around the corner (February 27 - March 3) and I can't wait. This is one of my favorite events in Kansas City and I'm honored to be involved for another season. I will be styling the kick off event at The Garment District Boutique, working backstage with accessory designer, House of Cochon and doing some live posts behind-the-scenes throughout the week. Follow me for updates or get your own tickets here
p.s. I'm thrilled to announce that ECS has joined The Glam Network! I'm so excited & truly honored to be a part of a community of some of my favorite bloggers. Nothing big will change, just more personally curated content and a few brands/sponsors that may pop by here and there. Stay tuned!

My birthday is tomorrow and although I don't have any extravagent plans this year, I've enjoyed treating myself a little extra in honor of the occassion. This week I've made a point to pamper myself with several beauty treatments I rarely take the time to do, including a a session at bronze & beauty salon for a sun kissed glow and Hoopla Studio for a mani/pedi. I've also made room in my usually booked schedule to enjoy a few long lunch and dinner dates with friends and afternoon shopping trips because a girl can always give herself a gift - am I right? It's nice to take the time to do the things I enjoy with the people I care about most. As I grow older, I realize that's the most important thing.

So, I'll be taking a mini break this week to enjoy the little things, like a box of macarons and champagne {so much better than birthday cake} and time with my girls. Plus, I've been told I may have a few surprises from the boy {he has planned the entire day and I'm not sure what to expect!} Feel free to follow me on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for updates.

p.s. I also have some exciting news to share about ECS soon!

So, you've probably seen the images and already watched the show. But, I had to share the amazing J. Crew Fall 2013 collection. It's everything we love about the brand and more... Tailored trousers, tons of textures & detailed fabrics, plus statement jewelry. What's not to love?

Although I didn't jet set to New York City this season for fashion week, I did catch a few of the shows online and on the bright side, missed the horrible blizzard {see, there is a positive!} And I'm hoping that I can make it this fall for the Spring/Summer '14 shows - perhaps with the lovely ladies, Sam and Katelyn

Until then, I thought I'd share a few stand out beauty looks from one of my favorite designers, Jason Wu. His collection was truly amazing as always, but as a beauty publicist by day, I couldn't help but focus on the hair and makeup. His team was comprised of Odile Gilbert for Kerastase and Diane Kendal for Lancome. Together, they created a look that is dark and edgy, yet still feminine and wearable. Drawing attention to the eyes, the models doned dark navy lids with perfectly fluffy lashes and minimal liner for a dramatic effect that's not over-the-top. Barely there blush finished the face. On a side note: I also love that full brows are here to stay. Anyone else just breathe a sigh of relief? The hair was quite catching with sleek, woven chignons. I can imagine the simple low bun taking over as the new "topknot" next season.

After three months in the new house, I finally ordered a desk for my soon-to-be office. I can't wait for it to arrive and to get started on decorating the space. I picked the brightest room in the house that brings in tons of sunshine during the day. Working from home, it's so important to have a place where I can be motivated & inspired on a daily basis. I have a feeling I'll be sending most of my time in this room and want it to be a place I want to be in.

With the walls and key furniture being a crisp cappucino white, I've decided to add life to the room with gold accent pieces and pops of color with my decor. I'm also starting to shop for office supplies that are both stylish and functional to add a bit of color to my desk. My favorite online shop for supplies is Poppin - I love the modern look and the bright colors to choose from! Because everyone needs hot pink scissors, pens and tape dispensers, right? Here are a few of my favorite bold and bright office supplies.

Stockholm Office Storage Boxes - The Container Store | Tape Dispenser in Pink - Poppin {also love this, this and this!} | Back Up iPhone Charger - J. Crew | Gemstone Magnet Set - Leif Shop | Live Colorfully Paperweight - Kate Spade | Chelsea Flower Candle - Bond No. 9 | Brilliant Ideas Large Notepad - Kate Spade

This week went by really fast for me. I've been wrapped up in so many different projects that my days have been packed with things to do, places to be and deadlines to meet. I had to remind myself of this quote from Oscar de la Renta a few times, "When you rest, you rust." This was a good reminder that it's all worth it - or will be - in the end. With Valentine's Day and my birthday around the corner {6 days, not like I'm counting!}  I thought I'd share a print I've been eyeing for a few weeks that would make the perfect gift for a friend or loved one by Ampersand Design Studio. It says "C'est Tout" or "It's Everything." I just love everything about it, especially the message. It would be nice to have a daily reminder that everyone and everything is worth being happy about.

Have a great weekend! xo

One of the most inspiring women of the blog industry was featured on The Coveteur  recently. And as you know, everyone who is everyone has been featured on the site {including Barbie, Cher Horowitz, Lauren Conrad, and the likes!} It's obvious why they would add Emily Schuman of Cupcakes and Cashmere to the list. She is stunning. She has an impeccable taste for all things stylish - even in the kitchen, and has built an incredible brand for herself. What's not to love?
And after reading the feature and drooling over ever.single.picture. I came to a realization. Yes, she appears to have an amazing life. But, it's one that she has worked so hard to achieve. And my biggest takeaway? Always find what is missing in the world and create it. Nurture it. And it will grow. So, instead of running out and spending two {or four} months worth of paychecks on a new wardrobe similar to hers, I'm instead going to follow her entreprenurial spirit and find my own passion. I hope that get's me somewhere better than a pile of debt... and brings a whole lot more happiness.

Still looking for a Valentine's Day gift or want to treat yourself to something special this month? Kate Spade is having a surprise sale with major discounts - up to 75% off! Here are a few of my favorite newly discounted items, from sparkly heels to pink leather satchels you can't go wrong! These crystal bow studs {under $40!} might have to be mine!

This weekend went by really fast. Same for anyone else? We spent the majority of it working on the house and finishing up the downstairs bathroom {such a process, but so worth it!} Today, we're hosting an intimate Super Bowl XLVII watch party and I'll be busy in the kitchen whipping up a few snacks. How perfect would this casual outfit be for a cozy night of football and food with friends? Plus, I've got my eye on these leopard loafers from Sperry Topsider and this Maya Brenner initial necklace is on my must-have list this month.

Initial Necklace - Bauble Bar | J. Crew - Tote | Tee - Joie | Leather Motorcycle Jacket - Coach | Boyfriend Jean in 'Super Loved Destroyed' - Current Elliott | Leopard Pony Loafers - Sperry Topsider | Legacy Tassel Keyfob - Coach | Tartine Satchel - J. NYFW. It's almost here... Are you going? I'm have to sit out for this season, unfortunately. And believe me, it was a really, really hard decision. I have plans on attending this fall, but until then will have to watch my favorite shows from the comfort of home with streaming from IMG Fashion + Rightster. Still, stay tuned for my {somewhat} live coverage. I'll share my favorite looks from the runway on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and here.

Are you headed to NYFW? If so, what shows do you plan to see?

I just realized I skipped last weeks 'Friday Favorites' and almost forgot this week as well. Well, here it is! First off, happy February! I love this month and have big plans for it.

1. Wear Red Day {Today!}: Thanks to a reminder from the lovely Sam of The Brunette One, I just realized today is "National Wear Red Day" to support women's heart health. Since it's literally freezing outside this week, I'll celebrate with a cozy red sweater or knit scarf. How will you wear red today?

2.  Prabal Gurung X Target Collection: It's almost here! The Prabel Gurung collection for Target will hit stores February 10th {just in time for pre-Valentine's Day shopping?} I've already spotted a few must-have pieces, including stunning strappy heels in bright red. Yes, those will be mine. ELLE Magazine recently featured a nice write-up on the designer and the collection. Read about it here

3.  I Heart D.I.Y: Valentine's Day is almost here and I am itching to try a few new crafts for the holiday. Since a party is out of the question and I don't have a reason to make cute kids' cards, I plan to try out a few D.I.Y's to decorate the house. How fun would a heart painting be? I found this list of hearts-inspired crafts and might have to try a few for myself.

5. Halls Designer Warehouse Sale: I had to save the best for last. For all the Kansas City fashion enthusiasts, Halls Kansas City is hosting a designer warehouse sale February 6 - 10 at the Shoppes at Deer Creek Woods. My favorite part of living in NYC was scouting out sample sales and I can't wait to relive the rush at this event. All merchandise will be marked down an extra 40% off with savings up to 90%! I plan to attend on the first day. See you there?

Have a great weekend! xo

Remember when Coach used to be really cool?! I think everyone has their own story with the brand. I still have my stash of old Coach hand bags and clutches. It was an obsession for me, really. In highschool, I was smitten with the classic brown bags covered in the signature logo print. In college, it was all about the clutches. I had a variety in all shapes, shades and sizes for nights out - perfect to carry just your cell and a lip gloss. As my style progressed, I haven't turned to this trusty brand in a few years. In fact, I was almost worried our relationship was over for good. But, they have done it again

Enter The Legacy line. These gorgeous leather hand bags nod to the past with an updated version of their classic vintage styles. These are no traditional bags. Small details like perforated accents and tassels add a super fun touch. Plus, they come in a variety of bold + bright hues. How can you not love this neon yellow and navy combination?
coach legacy

Now, which one to choose? I'm leaning toward this classic camel 'Candace' style, but also love this color block and this watermelon pink version. I also love the smaller handbags and wristlets that can be taken on quick errands, dinner dates and thrown into larger bags for meetings. How perfectly fun is this Legacy Archival leather 'Kimball' clutch in bright citrine? Tell me, what do you think of the new line at Coach? Love it or leave it in the past? I love it.
